MGa SCCA has an autocross event coming up this weekend October, 18th

http://mgascca.org/

From the website:

What do you need? A serviceable car in good running order with decent tires, properly installed seat and factory seat belts or harness, a properly secured battery, no fluid leaks, a helmet of SA1995 or M1995 or newer rating (we have loaner helmets available as well, free of charge, but they do get sweaty and you do have to share), sunscreen, close-toed shoes, water/lunch, a good attitude, willingness to learn and have fun. We do our events in 2 run groups so you do work on the course on the opposite group from which you run but the course worker jobs are relatively easy.

Visit our website to view our event schedule. Preregistration is normally opened 1 week prior to an event on www.myautoevents.com or register at the event (we cap the event at 80 cars). Registration and tech inspection starts at 9:30 (if you need your car classed, please show at 9:30), mandatory drivers meeting and novice walkthrough at 11:15 and first car on course at 11:30. Events usually end well before 5:00pm depending on the number of entrants.
As performance driving events go, autocross is one of the best bargains for budding drivers, costing much less than an average track day with almost no chance of destroying your car:

Event costs:
SCCA Members: $30 Non-Members: $20 total for your first event, $45 each after ($30 entry plus $15 weekend membership)
**New club rules require all event participants to be members, hence weekend membership fees.
What you get:
Minimum 6 runs but we’ve done as many as 9, on courses ranging from 40 seconds to 2 minutes
Liability insurance coverage and track rental
Experience at pushing your car to the limit legally in a safe, low risk environment
Camaraderie with people having similar auto interests
Oh yeah, and did I mention fun!
